The Church honors Saints Sabbas the Goth, Patriarch Cyril of Constantinople, New Martyr John from Ioannina (1526), Saint Cosmas, Bishop of Chalcedon, and Venerable John the Hesychast, the disciple of St. Gregory of Decapolis.
Saint John the Hesychast, who lived in the 8th century AD, had a deep love for the Church from a young age. He immersed himself in the study of the Holy Bible and made a decision to devote his life to Christ.
Following the example set by Jesus Christ for those who choose to live a life of unwavering dedication and self-denial, Venerable John gave up worldly possessions and committed himself wholeheartedly to God and his fellow human beings.
He began his monastic journey under the guidance of St. Gregory the Decapolitan, a renowned spiritual leader with profound knowledge in matters of the soul.
Upon the passing of his mentor, Venerable John embarked on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. It was in the Holy Land that his faith in Christ was renewed, along with his determination to follow God’s will.
He eventually settled at Charitonos Monastery, where he peacefully departed to be with the Lord.
