On March 16, 2025, Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia presided over the Divine Liturgy at the St. George Cathedral of Stockholm in honor of St. Gregory Palamas, Archbishop of Thessalonica. During the service, he offered a prayer for the repose of the departed Hierarchs, Metropolitan Anthimos and Metropolitan Titos.
Metropolitan Cleopas addressed the congregation, speaking about the theology of St. Gregory Palamas and reflecting on the Gospel reading of the healing of the paralytic. He welcomed visitors from Greece, including Mr. George Pilichos, who shared insights on Orthodox prisoners in Auschwitz.
Mr. Pilichos highlighted the Ecumenical Patriarch’s visit to Auschwitz in 2019, emphasizing the need for peace and unity among all people. He discussed the tragic fate of Greek Orthodox Christians at the concentration camp and stressed the importance of recognizing our shared humanity.
The Metropolitan thanked Mr. Pilichos for his address and presented him with a special publication. The event concluded with a reception at the Museum of Hellenic-Christian Heritage.
