It has been a tradition in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada to organize Philoptochos spiritual retreats during the period of Holy and Great Lent for many years.
The first retreat for the current Lenten season was held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the Metamorphosis Tou Sotiros Church in Toronto. Many Philoptochos members actively participated in the event.
Each retreat begins with the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, presided over by Archbishop Sotirios and assisted by Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Fanourios Pappas and clergy from the Greater Toronto Area.
After the Liturgy, the Philoptochos members gathered in the parish hall to hear Archbishop Sotirios speak on this year’s Archdiocesan theme: “Make full proof of thy ministry” (2 Tim 4:5).
Fr. F. Pappas then presented on the theme “Journey to Pascha,” sparking discussions among the participants. It was a spiritually uplifting gathering that provided encouragement to the Philoptochos members.
Additional retreats are scheduled for later in the month, in Montreal, Quebec on March 22nd, and in London, Ontario on March 29th.
