Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece is currently leading the funeral service for the late former Metropolitan of Thessaloniki, Anthimos, at the Cathedral of Hagia Sophia in Thessaloniki.
Many Metropolitans, clergy, and faithful from all over Greece are present at the service.
Representing the Ecumenical Patriarch at the funeral is Metropolitan Panteleimon of Vryoula.
The late Metropolitan Anthimos of Thessaloniki was a significant figure for the Church of Greece and a dedicated shepherd of both the Holy Metropolis of Alexandroupolis and Thessaloniki. He served these communities with devotion for many years.
Metropolitan Philotheos of Thessaloniki expressed his sorrow at the passing of Metropolitan Anthimos but also shared words of hope, believing that the late Hierarch is now journeying towards Christ, whom he faithfully served throughout his life.
The burial of Metropolitan Anthimos will take place at the cenotaph of the late Metropolitan Gennadios of Thessaloniki, located in the courtyard of the Metropolitan Church of Saint Gregory Palamas.
Attendees paid their respects to the departed Hierarch and sought his blessing to continue their spiritual journey inspired by his example.
