Israel has unveiled the music video for its entry, “New Day Will Rise,” for the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest, which focuses on the theme of moving forward from darkness. The video features Yuval Raphael, who was chosen to represent Israel in the contest, singing among red anemones, the national flower of Israel. The setting and imagery are reminiscent of the tragic Nova music festival where over 380 people were killed by Hamas in 2023, a massacre that Raphael survived.
The lyrics of the song convey a message of hope and resilience, with Raphael singing, “New day will rise, life will go on / Everyone cries, don’t cry alone / Darkness will fade, all the pain will go by / But we will stay.” The song is predominantly in English, with a verse in French and a line in Hebrew quoting from Jewish scripture.
After facing scrutiny last year for being too political, Israel’s entry has been approved by Eurovision for this year’s contest, which will take place in Basel, Switzerland in May. Alongside Raphael, another Jewish contestant, Asaf Mishiyev from the Azerbaijani band Mamagama, will also be participating.
