On February 24, 2025, the Chancellery of the Metropolitan of the Polish Orthodox Church issued a heartfelt communiqué, urging the faithful to pray for peace and support war victims as it marks three years since the outbreak of war in Ukraine.
The statement paints a grim picture of the devastation caused by the conflict, emphasizing the human cost: “Monday, February 24, marks three years since the outbreak of war in Ukraine, a war marked by tens of thousands of deaths, hundreds of thousands of wounded, shattered and divided families, and destroyed cities, schools, hospitals, and homes.”
It also highlights that the impact of war extends beyond Ukraine, reaching Palestine, Israel, and more than 180 other places worldwide where armed conflicts continue.
In response to this tragic reality, the Polish Orthodox Church calls for unity in prayer and compassion for those affected by war: “We urge all those moved by human suffering to pray for peace on Monday, February 24, and beyond. Let us support the war victims, alleviate their pain, and comfort them in their distress.”
The message closes with a poignant prayer for peace, invoking God’s Spirit to bring an end to the suffering: “God of Peace, may Your Spirit bring peace to Ukraine, to our world, and to our hearts!”
