On February 18th, we celebrate the fourth anniversary of the election of Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia. He was chosen as the 46th Serbian Patriarch by the Holy Assembly of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church during its session at the Memorial Cathedral of Saint Sava in Belgrade on February 18, 2021.
After his election, a thanksgiving service was held immediately, and the bells of the Saint Sava Cathedral in Vračar rang out just before 4:00 PM, announcing the appointment of the new Patriarch.
The solemn enthronement ceremony took place on February 19, 2021, starting with a conciliar Divine Hierarchical Liturgy at the Holy Archangel Cathedral in Belgrade.
Since his election, Patriarch Porfirije has been actively involved in shaping the history of the Serbian Orthodox Church through his liturgical services, canonical visits to dioceses, meetings with world and national leaders, charitable initiatives, interviews, and pastoral messages. His tenure has been characterized by a dedication to faith, unity, and service, reflecting the deep traditions of the Church of Saint Sava.
As Patriarch Porfirije enters his fifth year, he continues to serve as a guiding spiritual leader, promoting dialogue, strengthening Orthodox unity, and addressing important social and humanitarian challenges.
