The Church celebrates the memory of Apostle Onesimus, Venerable Eusebius, and Venerable Anthimos of Chios.
Saint Onesimus was a servant of Philemon in Colossae, Asia Minor. Philemon had embraced Christianity through Saint Paul and treated his servants with care. However, Onesimus misused money, fled to Rome, and found himself in a desperate situation. Hearing that Paul was in Rome, Onesimus sought his guidance.
Paul sent Onesimus back to Philemon with a letter urging kindness. Philemon then sent Onesimus back to Rome to assist the elderly Apostle. Despite facing persecution and torture, Onesimus remained steadfast in his faith until his martyrdom.
Onesimus is revered as the patron saint of prisoners, symbolizing the opportunity for redemption and forgiveness for all. Paul’s teachings emphasize unity and equality in Christ, transcending societal divisions.
