With unanimous agreement, the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church – Bulgarian Patriarchate (BPC-BP) has elected Bishop Pahomiy of Branitsa as the new Metropolitan of Vidin.
The election process for the new Metropolitan of Vidin commenced today, as per the Holy Synod’s decision, with a celebratory Divine Liturgy led by Archimandrite Ioan, protosyncellus of the Holy Metropolis of Sofia, and Protodeacon Ivan Petkov.
After the Liturgy, Patriarch Daniil of Bulgaria addressed the hierarchs of the Holy Synod, stating:
“Let us, through fervent prayer, seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and with a pure and righteous episcopal conscience, fulfill our pastoral duty by selecting a canonically rightful Metropolitan for the seat of Vidin.”
The Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church conducted the election for the new Metropolitan of Vidin, with the hierarchs casting their votes in the Synodal Chapel.
Following the vote count, Patriarch Daniil officially announced Bishop Pahomiy of Branitsa as the canonically elected Metropolitan of Vidin. This declaration was followed by the customary chanting of Axios! (Many Years).
Subsequently, at the reception hall of the Holy Synod, the Patriarch addressed the newly elected Metropolitan with these words:
“Be strong, Your Eminence! Fulfill with enthusiasm and dedication the task appointed to you by God, and He will always uphold and empower you with His divine grace—for the benefit and prosperity of both your entrusted diocese and our entire Holy Orthodox Church!”
The newly elected Metropolitan Pahomiy expressed his profound gratitude to Patriarch Daniil and the Holy Synod for their trust in him. He affirmed his readiness to serve diligently within the boundaries of the Diocese of Vidin, pledging to exert every effort in the pursuit of soul salvation.
