The Church honors the memory of the Holy Virgin Martyr Agatha, New Martyr Anthony of Athens, Saint Polyeuctus of Constantinople, Patriarch of Constantinople, and Saint Theodosius of Skopelos.
Saint Agatha was born in Palermo, Sicily, during the reign of Emperor Decius. She was known for her beauty, morality, virtues, and unwavering faith in Christ.
When Governor Quintianus learned about her Christian faith and her dedication to Christ, he attempted to force her to worship idols. Despite his efforts, she remained steadfast in her devotion to Jesus. Even when subjected to torture, Saint Agatha refused to renounce her faith and embraced martyrdom as God’s will. She faced her trials with remarkable courage, praising God until the end when she received the crown of martyrdom through her heroic death.
