The year 2025 has been declared the Solemn Year of the Centennial of the Romanian Patriarchate and the Commemorative Year of 20th-century Romanian Orthodox Spiritual Fathers and Confessors.
Several important events are scheduled to take place in the upcoming months to mark this occasion, including:
February 4, 2025 – Centennial of the Romanian Patriarchate
The Romanian Orthodox Church will celebrate 100 years since becoming a Patriarchate. The canonization of 16 Romanian Saints will be proclaimed, led by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel and the hierarchs of the Holy Synod. Each saint will then be locally proclaimed in their respective diocese on their feast days.
April 17, 2025 – Preparation and Consecration of Holy Chrism
The Holy Chrism used in the Sacrament of Chrismation and church consecrations will be prepared and consecrated.
April 25, 2025 – 140th Anniversary of Autocephaly
The celebration of 140 years since the recognition of the autocephaly of the Romanian Orthodox Church will coincide with the Feast of the Life-Giving Spring.
May 13–17, 2025 – International Theology Symposium
An international theological symposium in Bucharest will focus on the Centennial Year and the 1,700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea.
October 26, 2025 – Consecration of the National Cathedral
The National Cathedral will be consecrated and opened for worship by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople and His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of the Romanian Orthodox Church, in the presence of the members of the Holy Synod.
These significant events and milestones will be officially recognized throughout the year.
