The health of Archbishop Anastasios has raised widespread concern in Albania, bringing together religious and political leaders, as well as citizens of all faiths. His significant contributions to Albanian society and his efforts to promote interreligious harmony have left a lasting impact on the nation.
Albanian Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku visited Evangelismos Hospital in Athens, where she met with Bishop Anastasi of Kruja. Bishop Anastasi, along with Fr. Harallamb Gjoka and Fr. Spiro Topanxha, remains by the Archbishop’s side during his treatment. Balluku was updated on the Archbishop’s condition and offered her support and prayers for his recovery.
Political leaders from across Albania have also expressed their concern and prayers. Sali Berisha, leader of the Opposition and former president and prime minister, shared a heartfelt message on social media, calling for prayers for the Archbishop’s health and healing.
Former Prime Minister Pandeli Majko and MP Niko Peleshi also offered their prayers for Archbishop Anastasios’ health, acknowledging his important role in the Albanian Orthodox Church.
The Interreligious Council of Albania, under Archbishop Anastasios’ leadership in 2024, praised his influence on interreligious cooperation and understanding.
Archbishop Anastasios has played a crucial role in the spiritual and social development of Albania, rebuilding the Orthodox Church and promoting interfaith dialogue. As he remains in critical condition, the country’s leaders and citizens continue to come together in prayer for his recovery, recognizing the impact of his life and ministry.
