Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew led the blessing of the Holy Vasilopita at the Marasleio School in Constantinople on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, during a festive event organized by the Greek Diaspora Associations.
In his speech, the Patriarch highlighted the importance of preserving the spiritual and cultural identity of the Greek community, emphasizing the role of tradition in maintaining historical continuity and cultural cohesion.
“Each generation serves as a link between the past, present, and future,” stated the Patriarch. “It is crucial to uphold this link to prevent a disruption in historical continuity and cultural unity. Without roots, individuals feel lost and disconnected, leading to a diminished life perspective.”
He further emphasized the responsibility of safeguarding traditions within the Greek community, stressing the significance of passing on spiritual and cultural values to future generations through families, schools, and the Church.
The Patriarch expressed optimism for the future of the Greek Diaspora in Constantinople, highlighting the strong connection between the Greek Nation and Orthodoxy as a source of inspiration and guidance in life.
The event was attended by dignitaries, clergy, representatives of the Greek Diaspora, and educators, celebrating the cultural heritage and achievements of the Greek community.
