During the traditional Christmas carols concert “The Rising Sun” at the Patriarchal Palace on Tuesday evening, Patriarch Daniel of Romania spoke about the profound spiritual and emotional impact of carols. He described carols as a source of joy and faith that can heal sadness and despair.
Patriarch Daniel emphasized the unique role of carols in fostering community, passing on faith, and providing comfort in a secularized and individualistic society. He praised the innocence and purity of children and youth as powerful conduits for sharing the joy of Christ’s Nativity.
Reflecting on the deeper theological significance of carols, Patriarch Daniel connected their message to the gift of Jesus Christ, who offers eternal life and healing through His love. He highlighted the importance of discovering God’s love through carols and sharing it with others.
The concert featured choir performances showcasing the rich spiritual heritage of Romanian carols. Patriarch Daniel expressed gratitude to the organizers, performers, and attendees, urging everyone to continue spreading the joy of Christmas within their families and communities.
The event was part of the Romanian Orthodox Church’s efforts to honor 2024 as the Solemn Year of pastoral care of the sick.
Patriarch Daniel’s Message:
“Carols Heal Sadness and Bring Holy Joy”
Your Graces,
Reverend and Venerable Fathers,
Esteemed Guests,
Beloved Carolers,
The traditional concert “The Rising Sun” organized by the Romanian Patriarchate this year invites us to reflect on the healing power of carols.
As decided by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, 2024 was designated as the Solemn Year of the pastoral care of the sick and the Commemorative Year of the holy unmercenary healers.
Through all the activities organized and promoted by the Romanian Orthodox Church this year, we have been called to be heralds of the healing grace that enters the world through the Holy Infant Jesus Christ.
Carols have a healing character, bringing joy and faith to those who listen. They share the good news of Christ’s Nativity joyfully, passing on the gift of faith from generation to generation.
In a world filled with sadness and despair, carols offer a message of hope and healing. They remind us of the Savior born in Bethlehem, who offers eternal life and forgiveness through His love.
Through the innocence of children and the purity of their voices, carols convey the beauty of the Nativity and inspire faith in the hearts of listeners.
As we celebrate the joy of Christmas, let us remember to share this gift of love and faith with others, spreading the message of God’s love for humanity through the beautiful tradition of carols.
We are thrilled to share some wonderful news that must be passed down through our families – from parents to children, grandparents to grandchildren, and to all future generations.
Congratulations to the participants of the traditional carol concert of the Romanian Patriarchate, “The Rising Sun.” We commend the event organizers and pray to God to bless all those who listen to carols with joy, as they reflect the beauty of the Romanian soul.
Wishing you all happy holidays filled with health and holy joy!
† DANIEL
