On December 15, 2024, Archbishop Elias was enthroned as the new Primate of the Orthodox Church of Finland at the Uspenski Cathedral in Helsinki. During the ceremony, Archbishop Agapit of Vyshhorod delivered a congratulatory message on behalf of Metropolitan Epiphaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine, expressing warm wishes for Archbishop Elias’ election and inauguration. The message emphasized the strong spiritual bonds between the Ukrainian and Finnish Orthodox Churches.
Metropolitan Epiphaniy extended heartfelt congratulations to Archbishop Elias, wishing him many years of blessed service, strong health, and success in all endeavors. He also expressed deep gratitude to the Finnish Orthodox Church for its support in condemning Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and providing humanitarian aid to Ukrainian refugees.
Reflecting on his visit to Finland, Metropolitan Epiphaniy recalled joint prayers for truth and peace, thanking Archbishop Emeritus Leo for his service. He praised Archbishop Elias as a wise shepherd committed to Orthodox witness through preaching, worship, and good works. Metropolitan Epiphaniy expressed confidence in Archbishop Elias’ leadership and the strengthening of the Finnish Orthodox Church.
The letter concluded with prayers for Archbishop Elias, the clergy, and the faithful of the Finnish Orthodox Church, as well as a request for continued prayers for Ukraine. Metropolitan Epiphaniy also extended an invitation for Archbishop Elias to visit Ukraine in the future.
