A seismic tremor with a magnitude of 4.7 on the Richter scale was recorded at 10:34 a.m., causing movement on Mount Athos.
Dr. Dominikos Vamvakaris, a seismologist at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), informed the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA) that the epicenter of the earthquake was situated in a marine area to the west of Mount Athos, northwest of Karyes.
Fortunately, no significant damage has been reported from the seismic activity, and Dr. Vamvakaris mentioned that “this specific earthquake is not a cause for concern among seismologists.”
Prior to this event, smaller tremors measuring 3.7 and 3.1 on the Richter scale had occurred.
