Archbishop Elia, reflecting on the deep-rooted Christian heritage of the region, issued a heartfelt appeal for unity in prayer among Orthodox parishes:
“We observe with profound concern and prayer the trials of the Syrian people. According to the Orthodox tradition, Syria is a sacred land for us, where Christianity has been present since apostolic times. The path to peace and reconciliation requires wisdom, patience, and collaboration across religious and ethnic boundaries.
The Orthodox Church of Finland joins in prayer for peace and justice. I urge all our parishes to include the people of Syria, especially its Christians, in their intercessions during these challenging times.
I hope that the international community will do everything in its power to promote peaceful development and dialogue in Syria. Respect for the dignity of every human being and the strengthening of the rule of law are crucial for building the country’s future.”
