The Church commemorates Saint Ambrose, Bishop of Milan, and Martyr Athenodorus.
Saint Ambrose, born in 340 AD, was a senator and a distinguished Roman citizen who studied rhetoric, philosophy, and law. He later studied theology under Athanasius the Great in Trevira, France. In Milan, he became known for his fairness as a judge.
After converting to Christianity and being baptized, Saint Ambrose dedicated himself to serving God and his people with humility. He eventually rose to the position of Bishop of Milan, where he zealously defended the Orthodox faith against heresies.
Notably, Saint Ambrose confronted Emperor Theodosius for his role in the Massacre of Thessalonica, refusing him entry into the church until he repented sincerely. Throughout his life, Saint Ambrose exemplified the duties of a bishop as a servant of God, guiding his flock towards salvation and upholding the true Faith with wisdom and love.
