Under the blessing of Patriarch Daniel of Bulgaria, Metropolitan Anthony of Western and Central Europe held an official meeting at the Synodal Palace with Nathaniel Copsey, the British Ambassador to Bulgaria.
The discussions at the meeting included collaborations and initiatives between Bulgaria and the United Kingdom, as well as addressing global challenges like military conflicts, insecurity, and aggression. Metropolitan Anthony highlighted the importance of the Orthodox Church’s role in promoting peace and love worldwide, with hopes for an end to global conflicts. He also provided an update on the construction progress of the Bulgarian Church in London, set to be consecrated in 2025.
Ambassador Copsey, who assumed office in August, expressed his admiration for Bulgaria and its traditions, language, and culture, stating it was an honor to be in the country.
Also in attendance were Bishop Gerasimos of Melnik, Secretary General of the Holy Synod, and Julianna Gurova, responsible for external relations for the Diocese of Western and Central Europe. Metropolitan Anthony presented Ambassador Copsey with a commemorative coin from the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, marking the 100th anniversary of the consecration of the Patriarchal Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky.
The meeting concluded with well wishes for a festive Christmas and hopes for progress in 2025 for both Bulgaria and the United Kingdom. Both parties expressed their desire for increased cooperation between the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and the British Embassy, as well as the continued growth of the Bulgarian community in the UK.
