The 26th World Russian People’s Council, chaired by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow on November 28, further solidified the close relationship between the Moscow Patriarchate and the Kremlin. The meeting highlighted the Church’s support for the political leadership’s goals.
In his address, Patriarch Kirill emphasized the crucial role of the Church in preserving cultural and spiritual values through its doctrine, prayer, and influence on people’s beliefs. He praised the unique model of Church-State interaction in Russia, which allows the Church to pass on its values freely.
Patriarch Kirill also addressed the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine, attributing it to external forces and framing it as a clash of cultural and spiritual values. He expressed gratitude to President Putin for his measured response to provocations and praised the cooperative relationship between the state and the Church.
Regarding nuclear threats, Kirill urged Christians not to fear apocalyptic scenarios and emphasized the importance of fighting against evil forces. He also dismissed stereotypes about alcoholism among Russians, praising their hardworking and responsible nature.
The Patriarch’s remarks underscored the unity between the Church and the state in Russia, expressing gratitude for the collaboration and partnership between the two institutions.
