Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia officiated a memorial service on November 20, 2024, at the Temple of Saint Sava in Vračar, honoring his predecessor, the late Patriarch Irinej of Serbia, who passed away on this day four years ago.
During the service, Patriarch Porfirije emphasized the importance of preserving the sacred legacy entrusted to them by Patriarch Irinej. He highlighted the need to pass on this faith to future generations, citing the words of Scripture: “Whoever keeps My word shall never see death” (John 8:51). Patriarch Porfirije praised Patriarch Irinej as a true representative of the Serbian people, an Orthodox monk of the old tradition, and a shining example for all.
As the service concluded, Patriarch Porfirije offered prayers for the eternal rest of Patriarch Irinej and expressed his belief in the late Patriarch’s intercession for unity, peace, and harmony among the people. He ended by honoring Patriarch Irinej with the words: “Eternal memory and the Heavenly Kingdom to the blessed Patriarch Irinej.”
