The third and final day of the conference kicked off with session VI, moderated by Prof. Dr. Ekaterini Tsalampouni, focusing on “The participation of the Metropolitan of Pergamon in inter-Christian dialogues.” Rt Revd Christopher Hill, Honorary Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Gloucester, Church of England, delved into the topic of “Metropolitan John and the Anglican Communion,” highlighting the contributions of Metropolitan of Pergamon to the dialogue with Anglicans. H.E. Metropolitan Job of Pisidia, Orthodox Co-President of the Official Theological Dialogue between the Orthodox and Roman Catholic Church, discussed “The contribution of Metropolitan John Zizioulas to the bilateral dialogue between the Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches,” emphasizing Zizioulas’ significant influence on the dialogue’s agenda and outcomes.
Session VII, led by H.G. Bishop Maxim in Los Angeles, focused on “The participation of Metropolitan John of Pergamon in the Ecumenical Movement.” Professor Stylianos Tsompanidis explored “The contribution of Metropolitan John Zizioulas of Pergamon to the development of the ecclesiological vision of WCC,” while Prof. Dr. Martin Illert discussed “Metropolitan John Zizioulas’s theological synthesis and Protestantism,” analyzing Zizioulas’ contributions to inter-Christian dialogue.
Session VIII, chaired by Prof. Dr. Aristotle Papanikolaou, delved into “The theological axes of the thought of Metropolitan John of Pergamon.” Prof. Dr. Stavros Yangazoglou examined “The Holy Trinity and the theology of personhood in the work of Metropolitan John Zizioulas,” while Rev. Msgr. Prof. Emeritus Paul McPartlan discussed “Metropolitan John’s Eucharistic Ecclesiology and the Catholicity of the Church.”
Session IX, under the theme “Church and World in Dialogue in the Work of the Metropolitan of Pergamon,” featured speakers such as Mrs. Maria Thalia Carras, Dr. Petros Papasarantopoulos, and Dr. Eudoxia Delli, who explored various aspects of Metropolitan John Zizioulas’ work in relation to contemporary issues.
The conference was well-attended by delegates from various countries and institutions, including a delegation from the Church of Georgia led by Metropolitan Gregory of Poti, students from theological faculties, and theologians and professors from around the world.
During the conference, a photo exhibition featuring snapshots of the ecclesiastical and academic life of the Metropolitan of Pergamon was on display, curated by Bishop Maxim of Los Angeles.
