Saint Nektarios, known as the Saint of Patience, was honored in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. The Holy Churches of the Holy Metropolis of Kinshasa celebrated the Divine Liturgy on Saturday, 9 November 2024, in commemoration of Saint Nektarios, Bishop of Pentapolis, and miracleworker.
To further highlight the significance of Saint Nektarios, especially for the younger generation to appreciate this esteemed Saint of the 20th Century, the Holy Metropolis organized a special event on Sunday at the Holy Monastery of Saint Athanasios the Athonite (School of Theology).
The celebration commenced with a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, followed by a Trisagion Memorial Service for the late Metropolitan Ignatius of Pentapolis, who shared the same title as Saint Nektarios. Attendees were then treated to breakfast, followed by a school program at the Theological School. The students performed hymns from the Saint’s Feast Day Service, a brief reading of his life, and a screening of a film about the Saint in French, produced by View Master Films and Simeon Entertainment.
Metropolitan Theodosios of Kinshasa concluded the event by emphasizing the virtue of patience, which elevated Saint Nektarios in the eyes of God and bestowed upon him many gifts. He encouraged everyone present to emulate the Saint’s patience and follow his example. Small icons of Saint Nektarios were distributed as a blessing, and food was provided to all attendees.
