When we look at the parsha of Migdal Bavel (the Tower of Babel), we see a strong emphasis on preparation. The directive was clear – “Let’s get ready and make bricks, and let’s prepare and build a city.”
While Migdal Bavel serves as a cautionary tale, there are examples of positive preparations in our tradition. Rebbe Chiya’s commitment to preserving the Torah by going to great lengths to ensure its continuation is a prime example of the importance of preparation for a mitzvah.
The Vilna Gaon and Rav Azriel Hildesheimer further emphasize the significance of preparation in achieving success, whether in spiritual matters or education. Their teachings highlight the value of hard work, dedication, and tzedakah in strengthening the foundation for positive outcomes.
On the flip side, the story of Migdal Bavel serves as a warning of what can happen when preparations are driven by negative intentions. The excessive focus on their diabolical project ultimately led to their downfall.
So, the lesson we can take from this is clear – proper preparation, thoughtful consideration, and dedicated effort are key components in ensuring the success of our endeavors. May we approach our tasks with diligence and foresight, trusting that our efforts will bear fruit in the end.
Shabbat Shalom.
