Following the Patriarchal Divine Liturgy at the celebratory Holy Church of Saint Dimitrios in Xyloporta on Saturday, October 26, 2024, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew held a private meeting with the new Civil Administrator of Mount Athos, Alkiviadis Stefanis.
Stefanis, a retired General, Honorary Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff, and former Minister of National Defence of Greece, was appointed to this position by the Greek Government last August.
The new Civil Administrator paid his respects to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the Bishop of Mount Athos, seeking the Patriarchal blessing for his new, multi-faceted responsibilities.
The Ecumenical Patriarch extended his warm wishes to Stefanis once again, hoping for a fruitful tenure in his service on Mount Athos, a historic region under the canonical jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Throne.
The Administrator then had extensive meetings with the President and the members of the Synodal Committee of Mount Athos.
