Israel Strikes Military Targets in Iran in Retaliation for Missile Barrage
Israel has confirmed that it conducted precise strikes on military targets in Iran in response to ongoing attacks from the Iranian regime. The strikes, which took place in the early hours of the morning, targeted military bases near Tehran, causing explosions that were reported by Iranian media.
President Joe Biden and his administration had expressed support for Israel’s retaliation but urged them to avoid targeting oil fields or Iran’s nuclear program to prevent further escalation. Israel informed U.S. officials ahead of the attack, and the White House was reportedly pleased with the targeted and proportional nature of the retaliation.
The Israeli Defense Forces announced the end of the attacks after three and a half hours, stating that the principal targets were sites involved in manufacturing missiles targeting Israel and missile launch sites. The IDF also struck surface-to-air missile arrays and other Iranian aerial capabilities to protect Israel’s airspace.
Despite the involvement of U.S. forces in the region, the United States did not participate in the military operation but supported Israel’s right to self-defense. The White House warned Iran against further retaliation, emphasizing that there would be consequences if Iran chose to escalate the conflict.
Israel’s retaliation comes in the context of escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, with multiple fronts of conflict involving Iranian-backed groups targeting Israel. The recent exchange of attacks follows previous incidents, including an Iranian missile barrage on October 1 and Israeli strikes on Iranian military sites in April.
The situation remains volatile, with the potential for further escalation. The United States has deployed troops to Israel to assist in missile defense, and all parties involved are closely monitoring the developments in the region.
