Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain visited the Parish of St John of Kronstadt in Bath on Sunday, 20th October 2024, to preside over the Divine Liturgy for the parish’s patronal feast. The Liturgy was enhanced by the beautiful singing of the parish choir, contributing to the tradition of English-language Orthodox Christian worship in the Archdiocese.
The Archbishop was welcomed warmly by the congregation, led by their dedicated Priest-in-Charge, The Revd Oeconomos Richard Penwell, and Presbytera Tamara. Also present were other clergy members, including Father Richard, The Revd Presbyter Gerald Hopkins, The Revd Deacon Catalin Constandis, and The Revd Archdeacon Dr George Tsourous. The Parish Priest Emeritus, The Revd Oeconomos Seraphim Johnson, and Presbytera Ann were also in attendance, along with Presbytera Bett Dubois.
English was used throughout the Liturgy to accommodate the diverse congregation, which includes members from various countries. Anglican clergy from the area also attended the service. Following the Liturgy, a festive meal was enjoyed by all, with special guests including The Rt Revd Alistair Redfern and The Revd Canon Jonathan Lloyd.
After the meal, Archbishop Nikitas visited the Convent of Saint John of Kronstadt, where he met with Mother Sarah and discussed her work in the chaplaincy team at the University of Bath. The Archbishop expressed his gratitude to the clergy, churchwardens, parish council, and the entire parish community for their hospitality and dedication to spreading the message of Jesus Christ in Bath.
