The Holy Eparchial Synod of the Church of Crete has expressed deep concern about the ongoing wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as the increasing violence among young people. The Synod gathered on October 10, 2024, in Heraklion to discuss these pressing issues.
In an official statement, the Synod declared: “On October 10, 2024, the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Church of Crete convened in Heraklion to deliberate on its agenda. The Church of Crete grieves over the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, mourning the loss of countless innocent lives.”
The Synod also raised alarms about the surge in violent incidents, particularly involving young students. The Church identified a “spiritual deficiency” as the root cause of this modern-day challenge.
“As a Church, we implore Christ, the Prince of peace, love, and unity, to address the spiritual void of our era, dispelling the darkness from our souls and illuminating them with His light,” the statement concluded.
The message from the Church of Crete urges introspection and spiritual rejuvenation amidst the global unrest and adversities of today.
