Believers gathered at Pantanassa Monastery in Sydney on October 7, 2024, to welcome Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. The Patriarch was greeted by Abbot Archimandrite Eusebius, members of his Brotherhood, and Abbots and Abbesses from five Holy Monasteries of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia. The Greek Ambassador to Australia, Stavros Venizelos, and representatives of local associations, communities, and the Christian Youth Association also welcomed the Patriarch.
At the Monastery’s Katholikon, a Doxology service was held, where Abbot Eusebius expressed gratitude for the Patriarch’s visit and presented him with an icon of Panagia Nikopoios. The Patriarch shared his emotional response to the visit and honored Archimandrite Stefanos for his contributions to the Church.
Patriarch Bartholomew praised the spirituality of Pantanassa Monastery and the dedication of Archbishop Makarios. He inaugurated a new wing of the Monastery and blessed the aquaculture water tank to meet the Monastery’s needs. A Monastic Synaxis was held, where the Patriarch emphasized the importance of monasticism in the Orthodox Church.
The visit concluded with a luncheon in honor of the Patriarch hosted by the Monastery’s Brotherhood. Photos of the event can be viewed here.
