The Funeral Service for the young man who was tragically killed in the attack in Tel-Aviv on October 1st, 2024, took place at the Church of the Holy Trinity on Zion Hill at noon on Saturday, September 22nd / October 5th, 2024.
Leading the service was Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem, along with Metropolitan Hesychios of Capitolias and Archbishops Theophanes of Gerrash, Dorotheos of Avila, Aristarchos of Constantina, Demetrius of Lydda, and Aristovoulos of Madaba. Also in attendance were many Holy Sepulchre Hieromonks, priests, the parents of the deceased, relatives, Ambassador of Greece in Tel Aviv Kyriakos Loukakis, Consul General of Greece in Jerusalem Mr. Dimitrios Angelosopoulos, and a large number of Christians and members of the Jewish Community.
Archbishop Aristarchos of Constantina delivered the obituary on behalf of the Patriarch, expressing the deep sorrow and grief felt by the Karousis family for the loss of their son, Jonah. He highlighted Jonah’s upbringing in the church and his promising career as a final-year student in Architectural studies at the University of Tel Aviv.
The obituary also praised Jonah’s parents, particularly his mother, Professor Dr. Dimitrios Karousis, a neurologist known for his humanitarian work at the “Hadassah” University Hospital in Ein Karem. The Patriarchate of Jerusalem prayed for Jonah’s soul to find peace and salvation, and offered condolences to the grieving family.
