From September 25 to September 26, 2024, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada, under the leadership of Archbishop Sotirios, honored the Falling Asleep of Saint John the Theologian, Apostle, and Evangelist. Saint John is the Patron Saint of the Patriarchal Toronto Orthodox Theological Academy.
The celebration included Great Vespers and the Divine Liturgy at the chapel within the Archdiocesan Headquarters, with the presence of Bishop Athenagoras of Patara, local Fathers, and many devout Orthodox believers.
During the event, Archbishop Sotirios, with the blessing of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, appointed two new Archons in Canada: Ted Papadatos, Archon Maistor, and Andy Seretis, Archon Protekdikos. Both individuals have shown dedication as benefactors of the Church in Canada, supporting and promoting the Archdiocese and the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
The annual memorial service paid tribute to the clergy, Archons, and benefactors of the Church in Canada who have passed away.
The services were attended by dignitaries such as the new Consul General of Greece in Toronto, Ioannis Chatzantonakis, the President of the Greek Community of Toronto, Betty Skoutakis, the President of the Archdiocesan Council of Philoptochos, Zoe Veroutis, and many Archons of the Ecumenical Throne.
After the services, clergy and parishioners gathered for a communal meal, fostering a sense of Christian love and fellowship.
