The Church commemorates Martyrs Demetrius the philosopher, his wife Evanthia and their son Demetrianos and Saints Theodora of Alexandria († 491), Euphrosynus the Cook († 9th century), and Theodulus.
Saint Theodora, originally from Alexandria, was known for her physical beauty and devotion to her husband. However, she fell into adultery at one point, leading her to repent and seek refuge in a male monastery disguised as a man named Theodoros. During her time there, she found a baby outside the monastery, which someone falsely accused her of conceiving through adultery.
Despite the slander, Saint Theodora cared for the child for seven years until the truth was revealed upon her death. Her husband, upon learning of her passing, attended her funeral and joined the monastery after distributing his possessions to the poor.
This story serves as a reminder of the importance of avoiding small mistakes that can lead to significant consequences. Through repentance and prayer to Jesus Christ, one can find redemption and avoid perdition. It also highlights the need to seize every opportunity for good amidst the spiritual dangers of life.
With unwavering faith and dedication to God’s will, Christians navigate the challenges of daily life, aware of the Apostle Paul’s counsel to make the most of every opportunity in the face of evil days filled with temptations.
