Assistant Bishop Timotei of Prahova had a meeting on Tuesday with Dan Mihalache, the Ambassador of Romania to Cyprus.
Accompanying the Assistant Bishop were members of the Romanian delegation that brought the relics of Hieromartyr Cyprian to Cyprus. Also present were Christina Christodoulou, the President of the Alliance of Romanians in the Republic of Cyprus, and the founder of the Romanian School in Cyprus.
The discussion during the meeting focused on matters concerning the Romanian community in Cyprus and the relationship between the two sister Orthodox Churches.
During the meeting, Dan Mihalache expressed his pleasure at welcoming Bishop Timotei to the Romanian Embassy and highlighted the significance of the moment shared in Limassol for both the Romanian community and Orthodox Christians in Cyprus.
Bishop Timotei of Prahova thanked the Embassy for its support of Romanian schools and clergy in Cyprus.
The delegation also had the opportunity to view handcrafted art objects made by Romanian students at the Romanian Embassy in Cyprus.
Dan Mihalache, who is actively involved with the Romanian Orthodox community in Cyprus, attended the official reception of St. Cyprian’s relics at the “Holy Archangel Michael” Church in Limassol.
Following the meeting at the Embassy, the delegates visited the “Holy Apostle Paul” Romanian Parish in Nicosia, where Bishop Timotei praised the pastoral work of the parish and discussed the challenges faced by the Romanian community in Nicosia with Parish Priest Petre Matei.
In 2022, Fr. Petre Matei received the Order of Cultural Merit from the President of Romania for his dedication to preserving the identity of Romanian communities abroad.
