The Orthodox Church is commemorating the translation of the Holy Relics of Saint Nectarios today, a significant event that took place on September 3, 1953.
This feast holds special meaning for the Christians of Cairo, as St. Nektarios spent a considerable amount of time in the city. He served as the Bishop of Pentapolis at the Church of St. Nicholas in Hamzawi, Cairo, and later as Patriarchal Commissioner of Cairo, residing in what is now a revered museum visited by countless faithful believers.
Each year, the translation of his relics is honored in Cairo at a small chapel within the old Episcopal Residence building.
The Divine Liturgy was presided over by Bishop Stephanos of Ippon in a mystical atmosphere, with the Chief Cantor of the Greek Community of Cairo, Alexandros Rigakis, leading the hymns. Metropolitan Nikodimos of Memphis, the Patriarchal Commissioner of Cairo, was also in attendance.
