The Archdiocese of Australia unanimously approved its new Constitution on Thursday, August 29, 2024, during a meeting of the Holy Synod presided over by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
Archbishop Makarios of Australia played a crucial role in the discussion, addressing questions and concerns raised by synod members. His insights and clarifications regarding the new Constitution were highly valued, marking a significant step forward for ecclesiastical governance in Australia. Archbishop Makarios was warmly congratulated by Synod members for his dedicated efforts.
Following the approval of the Constitution, the Holy Synod proceeded with the election of two new auxiliary bishops:
- Archimandrite Maximos Rudko, Protosyncellus of the Metropolis of Austria, was elected as assistant bishop under the Diocese of Aristi. He will support Metropolitan Arsenios of Austria in his duties.
- Archimandrite Evangelos Pata Tuktuk was elected as assistant bishop under the Diocese of Sasima. He will work closely with Metropolitan Iakovos of Mexico to enhance the spiritual and administrative functions of the Metropolis.
