Archbishop Nikitas led Matins and the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Wood Green on Thursday, 15th August 2024. He was joined by Metropolitan Iakovos of Ireland and Bishop Iakovos of Claudiopolis. Other clergy members present included Archimandrite Nephon Tsimallis, Protopresbyter Panayiotis Dik, Oeconomos Nikolaos Kokkinos, and Presbyter Petros Georgiou. Deacons George Tsourous, Gregory Florides, and Georgios Ntallas also participated.
Notable guests included Mrs. Iphigenia Kanara and Mr. Christos Gkoulas from the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic, Ms. Melivia Demetriou from the High Commission of the Republic of Cyprus, Pambos Charalambou, MP for Enfield, and former Mayor Eddie Griffith. Archbishop Nikitas delivered a sermon on the importance of the Dormition of the Mother of God, urging attendees to follow her example of obedience to God.
After the Liturgy, Archbishop Nikitas honored Presbyter Petros Georgiou with the Offikion of Oeconomos for his service and commitment to the Church. Bishop Iakovos of Claudiopolis welcomed Archbishop Nikitas and Metropolitan Iakovos, thanking them for their work in the community.
The Wood Green community hosted a Greek festival, showcasing Hellenic culture, food, and music to local residents. Stands offered traditional Greek Cypriot delicacies and products from various Orthodox countries, fostering fellowship among attendees.
