The Orthodox Church commemorates today Virgin-Martyr Saint Paraskevi, as well as Hieromartyrs Hermolaus, Hermippus, and Hermocrates at Nicomedia.
Saint Paraskevi, also known as Friday, was born in a suburb of Rome during the reign of Emperor Hadrian. Raised by devout and prosperous parents, Agathon and Politea, she devoted herself to a virtuous life from a young age. She studied diligently, focusing on the spiritual teachings of Christ.
After the passing of her parents, Saint Paraskevi became a nun and dedicated herself to spreading the word of God. She ultimately met her martyrdom while preaching the apostolic faith.
Saint Paraskevi is often associated with healing of the eyes due to her modesty and avoidance of worldly distractions. She performed a miraculous deed in front of King Anthony, leading to his conversion to Christianity.
Her life of piety and martyrdom serve as an inspiration for those seeking to live a truly devout life in preparation for the Kingdom of God.
