On Sunday, July 7, Bishop Kyrill of Buenos Aires and South Central America, who is also serving as the locum tenens of the Metropolis of Zagreb and Ljubljana, delivered a sermon at the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Savior in Zagreb.
Bishop Kyrill addressed the issue of abortion in his sermon, emphasizing the Church’s teaching on the sanctity of life from conception. He highlighted the significance of the Church’s celebration of the Conception of Saint John and the Most Holy Theotokos to affirm that life begins at conception.
“The Church celebrates the Conception of Saint John and the Most Holy Theotokos to confirm that life begins from conception in the mother’s womb, and not, as many believe today, from a later stage of development,” he stated. “These beliefs are attempts to justify the murders that occur in the womb of a mother through abortion.”
Bishop Kyrill emphasized the Church’s stance that life begins at conception and that every child is a full member of society from that moment. He quoted the prophetic words of Saint John the Baptist, urging repentance and preparation for the coming of Christ, the only one who can address the fundamental issues of human existence.
