Metropolitan Theodore of Congo-Brazzaville and Gabon Enthroned
On Sunday, July 7, 2024, Metropolitan Theodore of Congo-Brazzaville and Gabon was officially enthroned in a ceremony held after the Divine Liturgy. The representative of Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa, Metropolitan George of Guinea, along with other clergy members, presided over the ceremony.
Following the Divine Liturgy, the new Metropolitan processed into the Cathedral of Saint Dimitrios in Pointe-Noire, accompanied by polyphonic choirs chanting hymns in French. Metropolitan George delivered a speech, highlighting the new Metropolitan’s extensive experience gained from serving in various countries and alongside the Patriarch in Alexandria and Cairo.
In his address to the congregation, the Metropolitan expressed admiration for the works of the Patriarchate in the country and emphasized the role of Greeks as missionaries. He thanked all who contributed to the success of the Church in the region.
The enthronement speech delivered by the Metropolitan focused on the history of the Metropolis and the importance of collaboration and compassion within the Church. He expressed gratitude to the Patriarch and others for their support and honor.
The ceremony concluded with choirs singing praises in French and blessings offered to the congregation. A meal and traditional African songs marked the end of the day’s celebrations.
