The Feast Day of the placing of the Honourable Robe of the Theotokos was celebrated with great ecclesiastical splendor on Tuesday, 2 July 2024, at the Holy Sacred Spring of the Mother of God of Vlachernae in Constantinople.
The Feast Day Divine Liturgy was led by Bishop Adrianos of Halicarnassus, Supervisor of the Phanar-Golden Horn Districts.
Following the Divine Liturgy, a Procession of the Holy Icon of Panagia Vlachernae took place in the church courtyard.
The Church of Vlachernae, constructed by Queen Pulcheria, daughter of Emperor Arcadius and wife of Emperor Marcian (451 – 457 AD), housed the burial cloths of the Virgin Mary that were sent by Patriarch Juvenalius of Jerusalem. During the reign of Emperor Leo I the Thracian (457 – 474 AD), the patricians Galbius and Candidus brought the holy robe of the Most Holy Theotokos from Jerusalem. Emperor Leo I then placed the robe in a golden casket within the Church of Vlachernae.
